Vansemberuu
Enkhjargal, a.k.a. Yooton, the gazarchin who led me to the Vansemberuu plant, at the Otgon Tenger OvooHere is a transliteration and translation of the Vansemberuu song by widely acclaimed translator, meditation teacher, and Man-About-Town Batbold.

Tertee uuliin oroid baival eejiigee
Bi uureed
Enehen nasandaa ochih bailaa
With petals tender like a silk
Of peafowl lineage, Vansemberuu
If stumbled upon, it gives eternity
Are the ancient words true
If so, if this beautiful flower called Vansemberuu
Lives on the faraway mountain, I'd
Carry my old mother on my back to it
In this lifetime
If so, if this beautiful flower called Vansemberuu
Lives on the faraway mountain, I'd
Carry my old mother on my back to it
In this lifetime
If measured, equal heights
If counted, ages same
Grows paired, Vansemberuu
With a distance of a ger's length
Unparalleled beauty like magic
Endearing like twin camel babies
The pair of cool Khangai
Are enrapturingly grown
(Voice)
I touched the fine corolla
Felt soft like a foal's lip
I stroked the inner side
Felt soft like my son's forehead
Unparalleled beauty like magic
Endearing like twin camel babies
The pair of cool Khangai
Are enrapturingly grown
If so, if this beautiful flower called Vansemberuu
Lives on the faraway mountain, I'd
Carry my old mother on my back to it
In this my life time

Jeez, let me just say I don't sport a micro-goatie and a mark on my forehead. Never ever. Nor do I possess a manic mode. I know, you'd posted the link to 'the other' Batbold to just get a rise out of me. Just like you, I would never have my photo taken or posted on the Internet, even next to a camel. Notwithstanding this, I am still looking forward to your findings on this flower. Have you found the scientific name of this flower?
The scientific name of the plant is Saussurea vansemberuu. Am still looking for a description of its medicinal properties. What’s wrong with the goatee? It make you look like a real beatnik.
This was my favourite song, when I was a little girl. Growing up in Khovd, Altai Mountains in the west, my parents and grandparents always used to talk about the tradition of how to pick up the Vansemberuu flower. They used to say that one should treat this flower so dearly and sacredly. But I had never thought that I would ever come across the translated version of the lyrics in English. Wow, the translation sounds as beautiful as the song. Beautifully translated really.
Thank you Khishgee.
i liked the translation too
just wanted to mention that zulai is not forehead, forehead is dukh, no? but it's the anterior fontanelle, the place where the soft sutures between the bone plates meet, of the baby skull, i don't know whether there is a special word for that in English as in our language, and would love to learn that word if there is.
Erdene.
